The GoSTEM Robotics Program encourages the creation of student teams and robotics clubs at our partner schools. We also provide support to students and coaches so that they may participate in robotics competitions. Elementary and middle school teams can participate in FIRST LEGO® LEAGUE (FLL®), while high school teams can prepare for FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION (FRC®). These tournaments have been predicted to increase student interest in STEM. Both competitions center on a challenge that is released by the national FIRST organization annually in early September. Participating students tackle a real-world problem with a socially relevant theme that is designed to increase the students' awareness of current affairs. Each student team can have up to 10 students and is required to build a robot using the robot set for FLL® and the robot set for FRC®.
Participation in these competitions promotes and sustains early interest in robotics and STEM disciplines among Hispanic students throughout all educational levels. In addition, engaging in the tournament’s challenges helps students develop engineering problem-solving skills as well as build teamwork, cooperation, and other leadership qualities.
